We've tured to this forum before for help and we need it again BIG TIME! We have a 2014 Sprinter Crew Van 6 cylinder. We drive 99% highway, do our own oil and filter changes using Mobil 1 MB Approved Low Ash Spec. 229.52. We do put a lot of miles on the vehicle with work however they are highway - not a lot of stopping and starting and almost no idling. It only idles if we are in traffic.
We are having a nightmare with the DEF system. At the 89,000 mile mark two NOX sensors went. They were replaced under warranty by MB of Wilmington who apparently installed them incorrectly and the wires burned up because they were against the exhaust manifold. Within a few months they burned out. They were replaced again by Sun Motors (who are great) however if they replaced them under the warranty and they went again we would have to pay to have them replaced again because the parts warranty only covers one replacement. Alternatively we could pay half and have it covered under warranty. They could not "make it right" because their shop did not make the mistake. OK fair enough.
It is important to note that at NO TIME has it ever had low DEF and it is meticulously maintained. We have a small business and this is our business vehicle.
About a month later out of the blue we had a low DEF warning light quickly followed by check engine light which was quickly followed by a 10 starts countdown. We brought it back in and it needed another NOX sensor which we had to pay for because apparently it was a different one than the two they had just replaced 30 days ago. OK fine. Not happy. We've lost count on how many NOX sensors we have replaced - I have to go back through receipts but it may be 7.
Last week (one week after the last NOX sensors were replaced) we had the same problem - plenty of DEF in there, low DEF warning light quickly followed by check engine light which was quickly followed by a 10 starts countdown. We brought it back up to Sun Motors and I don't think they know what the problem is but they want to replace the Diesel particulate filter, two more Nox sensors and some additional DEF system work that will cost over $6K!
Additionally we have had the following problems: the rear rims disintegrated. You read that correctly. Disintegrated. The intake manifold went bad and needed to be replaced.
Has anyone encountered problems like these? I feel like we have a manufacturing defect here but with 116K miles on it I don't know what my options are. Does anyone have any advice?
Thank you so much! Jen & John Cassidy
