Fiamma 65 Awning and Roof Rack

It is a special “foot” that mounts to the factory roof rail and “comes out from under the awning”. Hope this helps. I will try to find a picture and post it.

I see. Can the cross bars extend above the awning or do they need to terminate "short" on the awning side?

For my solar cells which will be mounted to the factory rails I designed the aluminum brackets from 3"x4"x1/4" angle with 1.5" crossbars from aluminum extrusion (80/20). This design will accommodate 65 Fiamma awning mounting brackets. I don’t see a reason why they couldn’t extend over the awning. None of our customers have done this but it should work. Hope this helps.

I went through all the various mounts available and I see two options for the F45 using the rack crossbars,. However, the only option for the F65 seems to mount directly above the factory C-channel, so there is no way to have crossbars attach to a foot into the C-channel.

Do you have a solution that works with the rack and F65, or only F45? If so, I'd love to see a pic.

Maybe this will help. You can see the rear Fiamma F65 mount and the 3 rack mounts we put on this customers Sprinter. It is hard to see in this pic but each of the 3 rack mounts has a bolt pattern for a Yakima roof rack mount. You could drill your own pattern to match any basic roof rack. Not sure if these mounts are on our we site but we do sell them. I believe they are $19.95 each including hardware. Hope this helps.

I think that the OEM roof rails were designed for taking download force but likely not a major side torque. Without some very strong cross bars solidly attached to your brackets I would be afraid of damaging the MB roof rails system.

The torque will be reduced by tightening the rack hardware, but not eliminated. I would only say it will likely reduce the capacity of the racks. Looks like a pretty simple solution. I like Orion's solar rack fabs better, though.

... from my many years of physics, engineering and roof top experience... most of the twisting that may occur from loading, will push down on, and be absorbed by, the longitudinal raised ridge (see the pad they added under the plate, or if not...just add one?). That ridge... it really rigid...


...oh... for a solar setup... yes, my design is simple, light, rigid... and still for sale @ $75 per set, rail hardware included!!

Good eye - I did not see the pad, but there clearly is one. Seems there are at least 2 good options here.

This time I am posting it in the correct place.

I don't see pads, just shadows. If you rely on the ridge to take a weight than you will be pulling the rail up with the pads from post #26 acting as levers.

Fiamma 65 brackets are using 2 ridges on both sides of the rail and the rail to support the awning, a very strong and well engineered design.

If I understand you correctly your crossbar set is selling for $75, this is good price.

“I don't see pads, just shadows.” Then look closer or ask. There is a pad of sorts under the plate. Its called Sikaflex adhesive! Guess what…the same product that Fiamma calls for under the inboard pad of its mount! And oh by the way, that ridge has twice as much surface contact and adhesion than what Fiamma calls for to hold their awning in place. If you have ever used Sikaflex sealant/adhesive then you’d know how strong it is and the strength it adds to our mount. Indeed, anytime you can create a three point of contact mount, you are better off. I will take that into consideration with our mount.

Thanks for this, it makes sense now. I thought you meant a bracket for the awning, but it is for the rack! Interesting option.

I'm looking at options for a roof top tent along with a Fiamma F65 awning. What roof bars do people use that are compatible with the F65?
