Default Re: Alternator Amperage

I have had a few alternators show up as "test good" on an "in vehicle test", but prove to be below rated output on a bench test.

The use of magnesium chloride by local authorities has a habit of getting into the alternator and corroding the diode pack connectors.

The high resistance will wipe about 20 amps off the rated output in most cases.
This is a simple remedy, cleaning the connector and in most cases will return the unit to full capacity.
