return air vent malfunction

when i press in the button in the middle of the vent selection cluster my return air no longer works as it used to.the little red light still comes on though.every now and then it will work.has anyone else had this problem?

I don't have that problem, but you really have no choice but to open it up to see what the problem is. Hopefully it's something easy and apparent, otherwise, you will have to replace the entire unit.

Very strong probability that the rubber vacuum hose which connects to the air intake flap servo motor has deteriorated where it meets the servo resulting in loss of vacuum. If you look down the air intake you will see the flap - the servo is at one end of that.

Easy fix: just pull it off, snip the end so it's neat again and reconnect to the servo. The servo is located under the bonnet at the end of the air intake flap (the end nearest the wing).
