Automatic climate control rebuild

Hey everyone. I just picked up a 2005 dodge sprinter. Pretty excited about it. But as all used vehicles it does have some issues. One being the automatic climate control. Firsts the hot and cold dial turns a full 360 degrees no stops. Seems like only full hot and full cold no adjustment in between. Secondly the middle knob turns and feels like it is changing. But I can’t get it to blow on the defrost. Just the forward vents.

So my question have any of you used the rebuild services to have the controls rebuilt. Don’t really want to spend 500 for a new one. If so which one did you use and did it work out.

Thanks in advance for the help. I’m sure I will have some other question over the next few months as I become familiar with the van.

If you are getting hot and cold the ATC electronic part is somewhat functioning. The dial that controls where the air goes controls cables that seize if not periodically lubed, if someone forced the dial with seized cables (probable) the mechanism of the dial maybe broken, I think someone here has repaired that. Look up lubricating cables on here, there are a number of thread detailing accessing/repairing the cabin controls.

There are members who have used the eBay-accessible rebuild services ... the old price was $99, recently i've seen them for about $125.
All those members who have reported have been happy with the results.

Here are three simply-googled "sprinter conditioner control repair" hits:
https://www.ebay.com/i/253997662372?chn=ps
https://www.autoecu.com/climate-con...3-2006-dodge-sprinter-climate-control-module/
http://www.european-autowerks.com/s...winchester-fallbrook-lake-elsinore-wildoam-ca

I have *no* idea how good the above providers are.

Your "spinning knob" has a potentiometer (think: analog radio volume control) behind it ... it sounds like you're just pushing the wiper from "full hot" to "full cold" (it shouldn't spin more than 180 degrees). There is a photo essay somewhere in the forum by someone who replaced that *specific* part. Other photo essays discuss the "bicycle brake cable"-like fixes of the "which vents?" knob.

Here was a happy camper (and i found another posting also happy with that source):
https://sprinter-source.com/forum/showpost.php?p=653582&postcount=8

Back in 2017 i chased down who they were talking about:

http://www.shop.modulerepairpro.com/Dodge-Sprinter-2500-Climate-Control-EATC-2005_c525.htm
($199 to buy, $129 for repair)

another person who used one ... he says it "didn't solve his problem", but his problem may have been elsewhere:

another happy camper:

The next post in that thread (https://sprinter-source.com/forum/showthread.php?t=65776) used another vendor, but didn't give a final report.

p.s. here's one of the eBay repair companies (but untested by me): https://www.ebay.com/itm/REPAIR-KIT...e-Heater-Temperature-AC-Control-/253049053573
There's also this (likewise untested) listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/REPAIR-SER...ter-AC-Control-/263211986765?oid=281014376808
... eBay does cover that last one with a "money back guarantee" (also untested)

p.p.s. this thread: https://sprinter-source.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32551 discusses a vendor who many people (inlcuding current member/mechanic MillionMileSprinter uses/used) ... but the eBay listing has now expired.
You might send MillionMileSprinter a private message asking him who he uses *now*

I successfully repaired my spinning temperature knob (far left knob) by creating a little triangular base with some cut up coffee mixer sticks and gluing it in place with epoxy. Not the prettiest job under the hood but completely functional. The original has three little push-in plastic bits that pass through the circuit board and mate in the other side. These often break causing the spinning knob syndrome.

I still don't have a solution to the middle knob other than I've had three that only break when turning clockwise. If you open them up and get them turning counterclockwise again (and remember to keep turning them only counter-clockwise) you should might just have full function or a while until you forget and it get's stuck again. Lubing cables and the internal flaps helps as many have noted, but it's not the cause of the completely jammed centre knob in my experience, the issue is in the HVAC control mechanism itself.
