Looking for someone or someplace in Florida that can plug into an OEM Espar Hydronic heater on an 2004 T1N and pull diagnostic codes? I've called all the ThermoKings and they only work on Airtronic.

The Eberspächer dealer locator doesn’t list a Florida hydronic rep...

Call their North American headquarters and ask?
1-800-387-4800

Only FL listing is for an A/C systems distributor:
17469 West Colonial Drive
Winter Garden, FL 34787
Tel: (800) 222-2871
Operations Manager: Ed Harmon, ext. 77170

Yachts often have Espar units... maybe phone a few marine service centres / marinas and pick their brains?

May also try calling some of the Semi Truck repair shops.

Try your local MB dealer. They should still have SDS which is the official MB tool to diagnose these bastardised heaters.

Thanks for the suggestions all! I wish I could find a forum member with the right goods . . . Stealerships and other unknown quantities give me the fear.

Does anyone know if the espar Edith tool works on these heaters? Most espar dealers would have one. Also someone posted a clone of the Edith diagnostic tool on eBay at some point. I think it was around $50?

The Edith software is a free download and has an explicit option for Sprinter D5WZ, so it should work?
The Edith hardware plugs into the harness right at the heater.
It appears the functionality is limited to just reading error codes... for the same (less?) money as a new Edith box (which needs a Windows laptop) you could acquire a 7-day timer and wire in the diagnostic wire.

Haven't hooked it up to a Hydronic heater yet, but the EdiTH ebay clone unit gives vastly more information on the Airtronic heaters than just diagnostic codes. Has this functionality been reduced on the Hydronic EDiTH diagnostics?

1. Eberspächer said they do not support the Mercedes modified Espars and to call a Mercedes dealership.
2. The local Mercedes dealership said "we don't work on Dodge"- I said, "it is a Mercedes, it just has Dodge stickers on it".
3. The Dodge dealership said, "we don't work on Mercedes; call Eberspächer or Mercedes.
4. Called all of the local ThermoKing outfits and the don't work on the Hydronic version
5. WTF?

The “DC NAFTA Sprinter” option (D5WZ model 25 2343) lists just an Error Memory test, but the next line is for “Nafta MB; S3L-II” (also D5WZ - 25 2343) which is listed elsewhere as a Control Box and lists three tests: General Data, Functional Check, and Switch on Component.
Both specify the same cable harness adapter (22 1000 31 63 00) and the “Basic” serial interface adapter (other models list an ISO adapter).

My boost heater is marked as a 25 2343. I have a 7-day timer and no EDiTH hardware, so hadn’t planned to explore this much further... whether our firmware would perform more than just the Error Memory test is unclear from browsing the EDiTH doc’s, but given the explicit test menu choice this seems unlikely? :idunno:

The diagnostic wire _is_ a K-Line interface, so we should be able to communicate with it using an ELM327 based dongle or other KWP2000/iso-14230 compliant hardware, but the protocol content is likely to be highly proprietary (much like the TCM data blocks) and opaque without some vendor documentation.

The Sprinter normally lives in Oregon. I had Rixen Enterprises in Sandy, OR help me with it about 5 years ago - the van will be back in Oregon at some point and I could try them again. Forum member VanSki in San Francisco said he can plug into it. Or, there is Dr. A in Clemson, SC. On balance, what an unbelievable pain in the ass.

Maybe call Dodge back and ask if they have a DRB-III... if yes give them your VIN and ask for an appt?

Yep it does and it goes by vehicle manufacturers code so very specific, it helped sort my D5WZ Hydronic out, have since found the aux water pump is dead so need to replace and should (touch wood) all be sorted, thediagnostic kit cost £95 to buy so not cheap but then my local Eberspacher agent quoted me nearly £70 an hour to diagnose!

I was told it might take 20 mins or all day - to me it was a no-brainer, buy the clone diagnostics kit. Plus what with the flood of Chinese clone Airtronic heaters on the market and the general aloof / arrogant attitude i was met with by the agent i can't see how Eberspacher are going to last quite frankly.

Here's where i got mine from:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-diagnostic-adapter-for-Webasto-Thermo-Test-and-Eberspacher-edith/173134753415?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Now if only i could get a clone Hydronic heater for a £150 my life would be a lot less complicated.

Here's my Chinese Airtronic clone heating my workshop (https://photos.app.goo.gl/a7XpGcYGj2CzKB1DA) via a voltage converter, it cost £130!

What about a parts source.
I am looking for the temp sensor on the Espar and the water pump?

There’s a Thermo King in Conley, about 90 minutes from you?
phone: +1-404-361-4019

Temp sensor p/n looks to be 25.2149.01.20.00

www.heatso.com is one source,
or
www.butlertechnik.com in the UK

The electric water pump is a Sprinter part.

I got a response from Heatso that this part can’t be order from he factory any longer.
Looks like I might need to find a used Espar to salvage parts.
Any more ideas?
Rex

The D5WZ is still available, surely there is a temp sensor that would fit?
Eberspächer North America may have a solution for you?

p/n 25.2219.01.20.00 (a d5ws part) may fit?

Butler has a broad collection of Espar manuals on their website, so might be of help?
