The “best way” will really depend on what you want the extra battery to do.

At one end of the scale you could go with a simple flooded battery on a solenoid isolator switch that throws them together and charges as a single bank. Low cost, but usually not the best battery management scheme.

At the other are lithium batteries with their complex management systems.

What do you intend to use the battery for?
How frequently would you want to fully recharge it?

The space under the passenger seat will fit a lead acid battery of about 100 amp•hour capacity, but they MUST be vented properly. Gell or AGM cells solve the venting issue, but typically require a different charging profile and voltage than what the stock alternator puts out. Lithium-based cells provide dense storage and high charge rates, but need special management to avoid operating them beyond their safe zone. Over-charging or running them too flat will permanently damage them, so they require a voltage sensing automatic disconnect on the charge and demand circuits.
