glow plug advice needed

Hello,

I have issue related to my glow plugs or the GP module (fuses). So engine starts without any problem. When turning the key the Glow plug light comes on, shuts down like normal but after that glow plug light pops up and stays on for like 2 min.

What would be a step by step procedure to fix this problem ? Is it related to fuses or are the GP's themselves bad ?

Many thanks,

Stijn

It's telling you "something" is wrong, as sensed by the glow plug controller.

First step is to scan the Sprinter (and a generic OBD scanner *might* give you a reasonable report) to see what it's trying to tell you.

An alternate approach is to unplug and test each glow plug (for shorts and opens, or simply "too high" resistance (above the nominal half -to- three-quarters of an ohm). A clamp-on DC ammeter can help.
It could also be wiring harness damage or failure of the fusible links inside the glow plug controller (the new GP controller no longer has those fusible links ... it's better)

The glowing coil alone doesn't affect "normal" Sprinter operation very much, but may indicate that cold-weather starting may be harder.
