Cargo Liner removal

I have a 2005 Sprinter cargo that I purchased partially converted. We are in the process of re-doing the insulation, wall panels, and floor.

After removing the flooring, we discovered an approx 0.5" thick "liner" that looks like it came from the factory. We want to remove this to gain some height, however it appears to be riveted directly through the metal of the van...

Any thoughts on removing this?

That liner comes standard with every Sprinter to stiffen and flatten the floor . Under it is an uneven thin steel surface unable to handle heavy loads without it IIRC, as it spreads the load over a large area. Traveling will be much louder without it too
