UK Spec 2002 LWB 311 CDI
So I spent last Sunday spraying up my wheels ready to fit my new tyres to, whilst the paint was drying decided to crawl around underneath my LWB sprinter with an eye to rustproofing everything.
In doing so i found that the O/S leaf spring hangar is corroded to almost nothing and once wire brushed of all the loose stuff a stress crack is visible in the bottom of the fitting.
No worries, i contacted someone who knows these vans like the back of his hand and he put me in touch with a company in the US who can supply new fittings, they're on order and should be here in a couple of weeks. Incidently the N/S spring hangar looked brand new in comparison, still i ordered two anyway.
I carry around 700kg in the back permanantly and alot of it is on the O/S so my question is would an air bag kit help alleviate the loads on the suspension and also help (via separate feeds to each air bag) level the ride height. Seeing as these kits fit between the leaf spring and underside of the chassis it seems to me it would help plus the van looks terrible in its current ride height/trim. Kits in the UK range from £280 to £600, from no name kit to dunlop/firestone kit.
Is this a good idea? Thoughts appreciated.
