Just received a new Bilstein fan clutch from Euro Parts for my 04 2500 cargo! I'm stoked to have it, but a few basic cautionary instructions would have been nice! The temp sensor bar has 4 small globs of caulking, one at each of its four corners. Should they be there? Should I remove them? Does pressing on the sensor with my fingers until it clicks change the "keep it upright unless its new" rule? thanks Brian

I noticed the same thing on my recently replaced 2004 viscous clutch. I didn't screw with anything. The old clutch that I removed had similar compound on it.

I didn't muck around with mine. The safe bet now would be to stow it upright until it is installed.

I have a few related questions: 1. Why does the clutch need to be stored upright? This might be a dumb question, but If I'm ordering this part off the web, do I need to be concerned with shipping and this "upright" guideline? Also, in ordering this part, is there any problem with either of these parts on amazon, there's a MOCA and a TOPAZ.... any advice on sourcing this inexpensive part? https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_...:15684181,k:2004+sprinter+radiator+fan+clutch

The upright storage requirement is only after it has been spun at higher rpm. This is because the fluid inside travels outward into the ring . Laid flat it will migrate out of this area and will never return to its correct position.

From the factory fluid is contained within a specific chamber and is safe to lay flat until it has been spun up once.

Not at all a dumb question. Stored upright because of the viscous fluid. Yes, good question about shipping, dunno.
