04 sprinter won't upshift

I've got an intermittent problem with my 04 sprinter w/ 276k miles. When the van has been sitting for a while I'll start it up and off the bat it works fine then it won't shift out of first revving up to 4k rpm without shifting. When I pull over and restart the van it goes away.

Recent work done to the van: new fuel rail, valve body, Concuctor plate, conductor plug, tranny flush, New harmonic balancer, new radiator.

When installing some of these new parts I saw my turbo had a slight oil leak in the resonator and hose. Any ideas? I've reset the transmission and it didn't fix it.

Slight oil leaks into the hoses from the turbo is OK ... (meaning a tablespoon or so of oil coating the insides).

Locking into "the current gear" (plus reverse, neutral and park) is the tranny's way of telling you it wants help.
Once you shift out of "the current gear", it will then only use 2nd gear for forward motion.
This is one of the flavors of "limp home mode" (LHM).
