View Full Version : Substitution for T1N 158WB MFS

The price for a replacement MFS for my 2005 Dodge Sprinter 3500 158WB is $264 (P/N 05103539AA, AB, or AC)

The same part for shorter wheel base Sprinters is well less than $100. It appears that the shorter wheelbase version of the MFS is also used on PT Cruisers, so maybe they are just more plentiful.
(P/N 051037455AA) $65 here: https://www.amazon.com/Mercedes-Sprinter-Combination-Steering-Bg54015/dp/B00ZYMWNEU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1528261816&sr=8-1&keywords=05103745AA

The notable difference is that the cheaper one includes a parking light switch.
Does anyone know if the cheaper one can be substituted? I am really okay with scraping off the parking lights label.

Sorry if this sounds cheap, it's become kind of a necessary game to keep my Sprinter running on the cheep. I'll also be rebuilding the turbocharger.

Recently I replaced a bent rear transmission cross member, replaced all the shocks, front discs, and new brake pads, including parking brakes all around. It's an adventure!

This is in the wrong section, You are in write ups, try T1N talk

Correct.
Normally I would have moved this to the Talk section. I was waiting to see if anyone can confirm whether the part(s) is interchangeable. A positive answer would make it worthy of Write-up information.

I guess I'll move it, and move it back if the information gets more play.

Most people agree that the Begel parts are crap.
Notice it says "Made in Begel Germany" but that's a company, not a city. No comma either, reminds me of the old Made in Usa stuff.

I would steer clear of these ones... shady business practices if nothing more but bad fit and quality of their products seems to be their trademark.

Can't help on the cross reference, I haven't found a good cross reference site yet...

All that said, at least one other person here has been happy with this part.

Good thread to send him to.

Too bad we were left hanging by the guy with both the 140 and 158 WB parts.

Doesn't the 158 WB have additional side marker lights? Using a multi-function switch for the shorter WB may leave those lamps unlit.

Added:
Some 118 and 140 WB MFS information. Not 158.

Head lights, low beam, head lamps, headlamps emergency fix.

Hmm, while we have separate relays for so much, do you think there are actually switches for each piece? Frankly for the price, I think I'd give it a shot or steal the parts I need off of it to put on the old one.

I doubt extra relays too. Without DRL the exterior lights are powered directly by the multi-function switch. I wouldn't be at all surprised if MB had separate contacts. What other differences can there be? :idunno:

The extra 158 side marker lights was a passing thought. I haven't researched the schematics or any other data sources.

My '05 158 3500 cargo has reflectors only (two orange per side) and a turn signal indicator on the front quarter panel.

:idunno:

If that is true for all... nevermind.

It would be good to identify the specific difference(s). Maybe some simple parts can be exchanged as trc.rhubarb mentioned.
