Visiting NYC

Does anyone know good options for visiting NYC? I'm staying with a friend in the city, I am currently in western Virginia, Should I just megabus into the city from where I am, or should I drive to jersey or another state nearby and train in? Does anyone know a parking garage or area that can handle 9ft of clearance?

Thanks for the help

There are paid parking lots with plenty of clearance under the elevated sections of the FDR Freeway along the East River. Here is one at the end of E. 20th Street:

Probably not the cheapest option (although the parking prices are quite a bit cheaper that far east), but fairly convenient. You could almost boondock there.

One option would be to park at Newark airport and take the train into the city. That way your van would be in a somewhat secure location with easy access to the city with parking cheaper than the city, the airport has a monorail to the train station with the train being two stops from Penn Station in Manhattan
