Storage - a portable basement where the spare was

I am moving my spare (again) to mount on the left rear door with this carrier from Upscale Automotive, http://www.upscaleauto.com/rear_tire_carrier.htm

So my idea:thinking: is, instead of taking apart the spare holder I will carry a Pelican case down there about the size of the spare. I haven't measured yet but I think it is possible. A Pelican case without foam and 24.25" x 19.43" x 8.68" is about $110.00. I could use it to carry the things I will probably never use but it would be nice to have like chains, a tow rope, etc. It would have to be removeable but I think that can be figured out.

What do you guys think?

Keith

Keith,

You can order the mount without wheel studs. This would allow you to mount the Pelican box directly on the door giving you easy access to your gear. The storage box carrier costs less to boot! I designed this alternative into the product because I personally wanted it as an option. The only draw back is you need to choose tire carrier or storage box carrier. Hope this helps.

Thank you, John

I would rather have the tire more accessible. The items I will carry in the case are less likely to be used than the spare.
