My 03 tranny is behaving badly --This may be the last straw for this vehicle......
I've had a lot of problems with this vehicle. 82,000 miles, 3 diffs, 1 ecu, an egr or 2, and several other things gone awry. Now the thing won't shift out of 1st!
I've been reading many of the posts here on this site and have come to the conclusion that I have the brain of a gnat. I'm hoping that maybe someone out there has an answer for this problem.
Brief rundown- cleaned the cab of sawdust and construction dust with compressed air and whatever cleaner stuff I had. Even Armor-All'ed the interior - hasn't looked that good all winter!.. .Went to a jobsite and on the way ( about 20 miles into the trip) I came to a stop light. Accelerated to 45 , sounded like I was in 4th gear. No change when shifted it up, dash still said D. Came to another light, this time only got to what seemed like 3rd, but dash still said "D" .
That held for a while, but by the time I got 40 miles away, all I could get was 1st. Dash still said "D". Needless to say, I was stressed and late for a meeting. 33mph was it, not wanting to stress this motor any further than need be. I left the pos run for the afternoon, fearing the consequences that I may be stranded yet again by this vehicle. That seemed like good logic until my SLOW trip back to the shop. That time, it actually went out of drive entirely. Pulled over, ready to get out the 12 gauge and aerate the motor, but instead turned off the engine, restarted it and was back in gear. 1st only ,but at least in gear and moving forward.
I have not gotten the 80k tranny oil interval done- that was supposed to happen in 2 weeks. It was checked the last time it was in to the dealer and was ok by them. I did notice today that there is a bit of oil coming from the rear seal getting thrown up on the bottom of the body.
Went through the fuses and relays, all good. I have read these vans have a TCM somewhere under the seat as well. Could this be the problem ?
On a side note, when I was going through the fuses at the steering column, several are indicating no power, but what they operate works just fine- e.g. L. headlight, etc.
I hope to get it in tomorrow, but maybe someone out there has an idea of what to look for.And no, I don't have a scan tool though it sounds like I might need one if I intent to keep this van. Oh ,, and a pocket full of spare money too. Oh wait! I'll just go down to my safe where I keep my spare time and millions of dollars!
