Too big to be a fox. Looks about the size of a large coyote, but they usually dont chill in the road like that, they are pretty smart. Ive hit all manner of things and been close to many more but never even close to hitting a fox or coyote. Still, pretty small for a deer. Whatever it was, it really makes no difference as deer, fox or chupacabra it messed up your van. Hope you get everything sorted out. You are fortunate that it wasn't much worse. Good luck!
My obligatory contribution to any deer strike thread on any forum is this:
I was riding in the passenger side back seat of a 2000 Grand Cherokee, two buddies up front, one beside me. I was sleeping. We were driving up some windy narrow back road past with a steep hill/cliff to the passenger side. A deer rand down off the side of the hill and stuck its head through the passenger front window. She hooked her neck on the B-pillar and the body swung back knocking out all the glass and destroying the side of the truck. Turned the pillar into a V and pulled the roof down. We skidded about 200 feet off the road and into the side of the hill. It was a murder scene in the car. My buddy J who was driving, kind of lost his mind over his new jeep and got out and started beating the already dead deer with a tire iron. The rest of us were too stunned and battered to do anything but watch. It was traumatic to say the least.
When the tow truck driver showed up he made the crass move of getting out of his truck just rolling, laughing like some dumb idiot over our misfortune. It took all three of us to keep J from turning the tire iron on the guy. Not a good evening.
I hate deer.
