Hi,
My van has been experiencing a loss of boost. Then today when I thought I had regained the boost, I tried going up the very steep driveway and couldn't get anywhere, so had lost it again and parked.
When I went to start it later, it would start, then died about 15 seconds later. I tried twice before stopping. I figured it was a fuel problem since if I gave it some gas to make it have higher rpms, it kept going and did not stall.
So, I changed the fuel filter thinking for some reason after using half a tank of fuel, there was something wrong that plugged the filter. But after putting the new one in, it was the same thing, so I guess I threw away a good filter for nothing.
I have had the Riordan Resonator eliminator for many years now and that looks good as does a visual check of the hoses.
Oh, after the engine died, I finally got a code, P0404, which indicates the EGR valve.
So, do I really need a new EGR valve? I remember reading about being able to clean it and continue.
Also, I believe I am beyond any emissions warranty with a van 11 years old now, but I thought I saw somewhere the warranty was extended to 100K miles, no time limit. Is that true? I'll have to give a call to the dealership I suppose and find out. I have just over 70K miles on it, so well within a 100K limit, but if there's a timeline on it too, I think I'm out.
Is this my next step to figure out how to clean the EGR valve?
I read a pdf file linked on another post, but it deals with 2004 and 2005, nothing for 2006 and later and there was some sort of design change, so I think those comments from the sprintervan yahoo group don't apply to the redesigned 2006. The document is older than my van.
Is there anything else that I need to look at before the EGR? Is there newer information for the 2006's on how to clean or replace it?
Thanks!
