fitting pollen filter....problems

I'm trying to replace my pollen filter in a 2004 316 cd1.

I cant seem to get it to fit.

The replacement has foam around the bottom edge of it.

I cant lock in the filter housing cover at the back, is it normally a tight fit to get it back?

Thanks for any help.

I don't know about fit with all brands of filters.

I do know that each time I replace my cabin filter I need to re-learn that it fits up at what seems to me to be an odd angle and doesn't just go right into place.

Sorry I can't offer more.

Thats a help, thanks.

I discovered that the original was a much better fit, so have ordered a new original part....

The angle for the filter is a lot steeper than expected, and the old one fell out without me being

able to see its position. Pushing the top (closer edge to me) into position first seems to make

it easier to fit the far side.

also, since it's aged plastic living in the engine compartment, it's not uncommon that one or more of the tabs or slots is broken.

I've had to run a couple screws into my cover to keep it together and sealed up.
