Hey everyone,
I have a question about motor swap vs rebuild.
I have an 04 long and tall. 400k miles. Rebuilt trans thus year now motor sounds like 2 bowling balls inside a dryer.

Should I have my motor rebuilt or buy a junkyard low mile running motor and install myself or have a sprinter mechanic install.

Anyone have experience with either situation. I'm mechanicaly inclined, but not sure if there is a lot of electronic stuff on this motor that I could mess up.

There is a lot of electronic stuff that needs to be re-programmed for a replacement motor, that can only be done by a competent Sprinter specific technician and MB scanner , it's not plug in and go for a swap. What is your location in the world?

I'm in southern California. I found a sprinter mechanic, factory trained master mechanic in San Diego who will do the swap, just had a wild hair about saving some money and having the pride of doing it myself.

Sounds like my pride would end up costing me more $$$ in the end.

Exactly what I was wondering.

There is also good reviews on a "sprinter expert" shop in Los Angeles.
