I used windshield removal tools from Harbor Freight. Be careful pushing the wire through the urethane adhesive at the start or you’ll scratch the paint. Me on inside and Son on outside. Went around the top first so I could tape the glass to the body (to prevent it from falling). Used suction cup handles on the outside (also from Harbor Freight) to handle the glass after running the wire around. Use steady pressure pulling the wire or it will break. There is some nice synthetic line (not metal wire) out there I wanted to try, but ran out of time to try it. It might be easier on the paint if you hit it.
The trick is getting the remaining urethane adhesive smoothed out after the window is out. I used a small angle grinder (carefully) and it was miserable. I’m sure the glass people have a method of removing/smoothing the adhesive, but I don’t know what it is. (some sort of knife?) That adhesive is tough stuff. The adhesive doesn’t need to be removed completely, just smoothed out so the weather strip on the window seals.
Everybody (van upfitters) I talked to said they break the window. I couldn’t stand the thought of wasting that good glass. (although I don’t know what I’m going to do with it)
