2012 Sprinter 2500 - Espar Heater not working

I need a little help with my factory installed D5WS Espar heater. When I start the heater, the exhaust blower ramps up, fuel pump starts clicking, and the usual roar of combustion gets louder. All seems good until about 1 minute after ignition when the exhaust blower suddenly stops, but the fuel pump keeps ticking for 10 more seconds or so, flooding the heater with fuel, causing it to drip out the exhaust after a couple ignition attempts.
I'm hoping it's just sooted up, so I ordered a new gaskets, o-rings, glow pin screen, and fuel filter. I plan to pull the heater and rebuild before the weather cools off.
But I am concerned about the fact that the fuel pump keeps running even after the combustion air blower has shut off. Has anyone had their D5 behave this way?
