Hello , I have a 2006 sprinter 2500 and the engine stops hard . I can't say for sure but starting it seems to make a less noisier sound . It is getting worse when I shut it down. The sound is not any type grinding or other noises from the engine itself. I am thinking broken motor mount? Torque converter loose bolts? Not related but I just did full tranny/ converter oil change. Turning off the key the motor stops hard with making a loud clunk type noise and stops hard . It runs fine, good power , no problems with running. thanks

I would suggest checking your exhaust hangers/brackets and engine mounts. Those seem like the most likely culprits.

Thanks , I know that the exhaust is weak as I was in Colorado last week and the rear pipe separated from muffler, hung the muffler in Grand lake , drove to S.D. to my brothers with a pipe with the intensions to fix it . Didn't and I lost the rear pipe on the way back to N.H. , still making noise . If anybody finds a rear tailpipe on rt 90 you can keep it. Thanks i'll check mounts. Jim

The mounts are a plastic composite I believe. They do break on occasion (fairly rare though). A good pull on the engine should show any damage.
