Was down test driving van last weekend and the dealer told me it would be 9mo wait if I ordered that day. Said there was a good chance I would end up with a 2017 if I ordered.

Does anyone know how early last year the 2016 orders started getting taken and when they started being delivered?

Most car manufacturers are starting to ship 2017s any day now, right? I don't even see any news for 2017.

my research led me to believe that:

If you had an actual BUILD/PRODUCTION date thru June you'd get a 2016 delivered 3-4 months after that build date.

Starting sometime around July the factory stops 2016 production and there is a brief pause while they reset for 2017 production. Then you get a van roughly 6 months after your production date and it's a 2017.

One key thing here is that there is a HUGE difference between order dates and build/production dates. If you walk in to a random dealer and try to place a custom order you'll have to wait until their next available production slot, which could be weeks or months. Then your configuration is built/produced with the normal 3-4 month build/delivery time, unless it occurs around the July model year switchover, in witch case there's even more delay.

I called exactly 20 different dealers to find one that had an actual Production slot slated to be built in June 2016 and that was still changeable. Production slots that are too soon will have configs locked down.

Also note that usually production slots are specific to a kind of chasis: passenger/crew/cargo and a body length 144/170 and a roof height standard/high/mega-high and a weigh class: 2500/3500.

lots of fun. get something off the lot if you can.

That makes sense. The only build slot they had upcoming for a 4x4 was a 170. I'm going to get a 144. I guess I might as well wait and see what the 2017 options are?

I believe that info will be available in September
