Hey, I'm trying to set up my backup camera,

I would like the camera to be on only when the engine is on
I want the screen to be on whenever the ignition is on.

I also need to tap in to the reverse lights to trigger the screen to come on.
I read that in the T1N's the reverse lights are the blue/white wire, does this hold true for NCV3's?

I was either going to run a wire from the back reverse lights to the screen, or if I am already taking off the seat, see if I can find it in there.

Most important, how would i go about finding this information without prostrating myself upon y'all?

Thanks!
d

For "Ignition", you should use the EK1 connector under the driver's seat. Do a forum search for details.

The (or at least a) REVERSE signal can be found in the driver's side A pillar. Wire color is WHITE/BLUE. I would only use it to drive a small relay, or a high-impedance input to a piece of electronics.

For not prostrating yourself, use the SEARCH box.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction with the EK1.

Though "Use the search box" isn't very helpful when you don't know what to search for, have tried searching for hours, and then give up and decide to ask. A document explaining the wiring would be very helpful if one were to exist though.

Section 6.4.7 should be a step in the right direction.

So it turns out the EK1 is magic and easy to access, but holy smokes, fishing out a wire from the a-column is damn-near impossible.

What I wound up doing in my 2014 NCV3 for people who find this via search:

Take off driver's seat (requires torx e14 socket) and tap into Terminal 3 of the EK1 for ignition-on power. I decided to hook up both the camera and screen to this. More about the EK1 on page 10 of the attached doc.

I took the opportunity to run a nice thick wire to the corner up above the drivers seat for easier access to ignition-on power in the future. I also ran a ground off one of the empty bolts beneath the drivers seat, because easy-access, why not?

There are 2 white/with blue stripe wires running up the a column, that I'm assuming hook up to either the backup lights or warning system in the back. These wires run to the back so you don't actually have to splice in at the a column, I believe they are the only white/blue wires. I spliced the screen relay trigger in to one of these white-with-blue-stripe wires. Im assuming they are both the same, but I am by no means an expert. Yolo.

My screen now automatically turns on when I'm in reverse, which I'm fond of.

Thanks everyone for all the bits of information around the forum.

I love you,
d

This information is correct. The color for REVERSE that I specified in post #2 above is wrong. WHITE/BLUE is correct. There was a horrible typo in my schematic. I will contact the moderator and attempt to get my post corrected.

I sincerely apologize if I caused anyone extra work.

Avanti, no problem, I saw white/blue everywhere else, went back to the lights and didn't see any any wires that matched the colors you originally said, so I committed to white/blue.

Sure am glad I didn't cut the wire in the a column that sort of matched your original description though  I wonder what it does...

Thanks for your help, pointing me in the direction of the EK1 was helpful.

The A pillar cover/trim pops right off. There is plenty of room to run wires there. No fish tape needed just poke wires up from under the dash, cable tie wire to existing wire bundle up to the headliner or you are right there at the dash if that's where you want to end up.

Ok. So installing a backup camera. Two actually. One that will be continuous, one that will run only when in reverse.

So I am planning to connect the camera in the back by T-Splicing into the White Blue for positive, but what about the negative wire? Where should I connect that?

Since the time of the original thread, the forum has come into the "possession" of a real MB 2007 wiring diagram: http://www.diysprinter.co.uk/reference/2007-sprinter-wiring-information.pdf
We also have the 2007 service manual: http://www.diysprinter.co.uk/reference/2007-sprinter-service-information.pdf
and a 3rd party 2007 wiring diagram: http://diysprinter.co.uk/reference/07_Wiring-sprinter-2500.pdf

For an ignition-on power source, the best place is under the US driver's seat on the EK1 terminal strip (and it's already fused):

and is item (4) in this locator photo (the fuse panel is to the right):
