Is that normal?
I discussed ordering a sprinter 4x4 with my local dealer we went over all the extras and other questions and in the end of our little discussion, the dealer asked for almost 1/3 of the cars price to be paid upfront. I was a little bit astonished about that and he told me it would be for all the extras which I would like to order with the vehicle, like the four wheel drive and navigation etc. The concern was that if I would not want the car when it's finally delivered, the dealership would sit on a car they could barely sell. A Sprinter Crew Van with 4x4 Navigation and some other stuff, serious?
So I am relatively new to the US car market, little more than 6 years, but I have already bought 5 cars and one motorbike. Not much but a little experience. I could understand if they would ask for something like 5 K upfront, but 30% of the cars price. How many people would pay 5K and then not come back to get the car? Just leave the 5 K at the dealership? Hard to belive, or not?
Anyhow, I could be wrong and that is normla business practice.
Any experience ?
