I Want a sprinter however it has recently come to mind that there are alot of different variations about ...I live on the east coast United states and in local dealerships, that shouldnt probably be trusted as far as Im concerned, all I can find are DODGE(with help of mercedez) models...when I first looked for sprinters I was searching in Mercedez unaware that Dodge made a sprinter...I like the look of the 2004,5,and6 models to me they look better then the differently shaped 2008 models ...I am interested more in better function than looks as I can always add looks at the end probably without sacraficing function...

...so first off whats the difference between 2005-08 models Dodge and or Mercedez-BenZ ?
2.are mercedez models available or will they be available in the near future in the United states
3.Mercedez seems to have the better Brand and more options is that true and what is the difference
4.it is important to me that I find the most detailed parts manual/ blue-print-esque thing of whatever sprinter I buy if they are available ...are they available ?

thats pretty much it I would, however, just like to add that I am going to attempt to convert this vehicle to use an electric motor...so you may comment on that what you like ...

I hope to get responses,James

James,
All the sprinters are made 100% by mercedes benz not Dodge. the only thing different between the mercedes benz and dodge models are the logos and grill. Same goes for the freightliner sprinters. There are alot of differences between the 2006 and older sprinters known as the T1N and the 2007 and newer known as NCV3 sprinters. some differences are height, lenghts, widths...the 2007 and newer are bigger in every way. the 2006 and older have 2.7L inline 5 cylinder diesels, the 2007 and newer have 3.0L v6 diesels and also a 3.5L v6 gas engine. the 2007 and newer has a ton more options, nicer interior, better brakes, better exterior lights, more comfortable seating, better gauges, more power and torque, higher payload rating, better fit and finish on the 2007 and newer also.

i too have been thinking of converting an combustion powered vehicle to electric power and using the original transmission and drive train. but i am not interested in doing it to a sprinter, im more interested in doing it to a cab over truck and placing the batteries into a battery box between the frame rails. the great thing about electrical power is the power is instant, there is no power curv like a diesel or gas engine.

Thank you ...thank you ..thanks ... that clears alot of clutter out of my head about what is what . I like your Idea for the Cab over design... Ive been sending E mails back and forth to an Electric vehicle parts and conversion specialist ...the last thing he told me was that he would be happy to help me and obviously I dont have any specifics for him yet so Im probably going to be putting a few questions to him as far as what sprinter out of the ones available is easiest to get the most range out of meaning distance given the amount of power vs the wieght of the vehicle ...what Im hoping is that I can overkill it with the technology available from him ...Ill probably also be asking alot about what problems I may have with the parts I would purchase from him and just troubleshooting advice ...and hopefully lots of $$$ later I will own a nice Electric Motor powered sprinter

james; if you do some searching on the web, you will find that mercedes has been developing a hybrid sprinter for many years now. in fact there are some test sprinters in new york (a rumor i have heard on more than one occasion). the hybrids are some very impressive machines from what i have read. i would love to have one, and will probably trade my sprinter in for one when they become available.

although hybrids are ok, im more interested in an all electric vehicle. pure battery power. if i could get 100-200 miles per charge id be happy. i put about 50-70 miles on my service truck a day so 100-200 would be great. 220 volt, 100kw liquid cooled, DC brushless electric motor. with some lithium batteries. the 220 volt 100kw motor makes about 400 lb-ft of torque.
SWEET!

according to the press release i read, the hybrid sprinter will go 30 kilometers on the batteries alone. not a lot, until you consider my commute averages just about that. i could drive to work on the batterise and plug in to my customers electric service and charge up for a free ride home.

when the Electric sprinter Idea hit me all at once I had included in it to be powered by a solar panel that sits at home and builds a charge to put in my sprinter ...I still want to do it eventually but solar panels ...$$$$$$$$ are expensive and some time will have to roll by before I consider investing in one ... and apparently the solar panel price is dropping as there is more demand so hopefully that happens ...its nice to hear that hybrid rumor .

earlier I said this wouldnt bug me but I cant help but dislike the look of the 2007 and 8 models to me the front juts out too much and gets rid of the more simplistic look I fell for ...maybe its just me:idunno:...I also dont like that crease that runs along the side like a fin or somthing... it makes it look uncustomisable so I ask this with doubts but ...is it not possible to go with a T1N and upgrade certain parts to not have to sacrafice the suggested better quality of an NCV3 Model???

if you want a t1n, you will have to buy a used one as they stopped making them in 06.

ok this is obvious but My question still stands unawnsered and I apologize for it being too vague. I will now try and ask a more specific question in a series... I will tell you what I want to know and why... this usually helps you ,the kind people :D:,to help me ...1.Id like to know the exact dimensions ,hopefully via diagram, of the NCV3 and the T1N ...2.Id like to know everything about how theyre built ...It is said the NCV3 A.K.A new A.K.A 2007 -2008 Model has better brakes,Larger Dimensions, and many other better things as appossed to old design features... and so I woud also like to know if there are any advantages to be had with the old A.K.A T1N design features as apposed to the NCV3 ...I also presume now that there may be a many different variations per year of the T1N A.K.A 2006 and earlier as opposed to the only 2 possible designs given from 2007 ,last year, to 2008 and of coarse then all of the above I presume to be either 2500 or 3500 to wich I would like to know what does 2500 mean and 3500 mean I presume they are either engine differences and or size differences and yes I feel stupid asking that question but my knowledge of vehicles is very limited in compliance with what I would be satisfied with ...Also not being sure if this information will flow in with what Ive asked for Id like to know if the NCV3 has a better crash test rating .I presume it does...

...I feel as though the 2008 models may even be too big for me to like them but Im just not sure because there is nothing Ive seen yet that is definate to tell me what and why the NCV3 was designed...I will now go rummage around in the wiki files as Ive not yet been there so hopefully I can find somthing or everything there

Hi Ho James,

You have a lot of good questions and nearly all of them have answers you can find right on this forum. The search function works very nicely. For instance, here is a link to a body builder's handbook (http://sprinter-source.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2575&highlight=body+builders) for the later model Sprinters. Using the search and advanced search you may be able to answer every one of your questions. Also check out Bulbasor's posts where he advocates electric-powered vehicles.

Good stuff on this forum and it's all there for you like the hidden girl inside the birthday cake.

Hi Ho James,

Good stuff on this forum and it's all there for you like the hidden girl inside the birthday cake.

As long as she looks more like MaryAnn than Ginger, I'm on board with the cake plan.

PS: The NCV3 dimensional diagrams are in the NCV3 database area (http://sprinter-source.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=103): here. (http://sprinter-source.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3662)

That's a nice and rugged looking Sprinter. I wonder if it belongs to these guys. (http://www.mantraresources.com.au/default.aspx?id=1)

Maybe Richard knows.
