View Full Version : ECU Problem & Pin 49

Hi All,

I've had intermittent starting problem with fan noise, and first changed out ECU Relay but no help. Next, I have changed out the entire fuse block on the steering column which solved the problem for about two weeks. But it came back and I took it to the dealer who spent a week to figure out what was going on. Finally they found Pin 49 on the ECU was not sending out voltage to the ECU Relay, thus no start. They showed that was the issue by jumping the ECU Relay and starting every time. You can literally jump it with a paper clip(Jump the two large connector on the Relay). Obviously this is a temporary fix and if you ever get stranded somewhere, try this first and it might save you a ton of trouble!

Did you ever figure out how to fix this? If the pin isn't sending out voltage, does that mean the ECM is broken? It is interesting how this was an intermittent problem.

It sounds like it could be a cold solder joint inside the ECU case, or a bad connector related to that pin 49. That would explain the 'intermittent' symptom.
Just guessing, though. I have lot's of experience with solder & wiring, but no experience with ECUs.
