Striong smelling exshaust

The 2 small cats on my 2004 passanger van were damaged so when we did an engine rebuild we took them out of the system. The new engine runs perfect tons of power and smooth as it was new. The problem is this thing has a vey strong exshaust smell. I do not want to pay the huge dollars for the stock setup so is their an option out their to knock the smell down a bit.

You may want to check that your high pressure fuel pump is not leaking. The bolts work themselves loose on the 2004-2006 models. There was recently a very good write up on this issue here.

Why would that make the exhaust smell their is no smell at all in the engine bay just smells like a 1960s 18 wheeler out the exhaust.

There are a variety of universal diesel Catalytic converters on the market. They should reduce exhaust odor. Prices range from 90-300$ depending on designed engine size.
