First off... Don't tell my '86 "Heavy Chevy G30" i am looking around for a new girl. She hasn't left me stranded yet.
The Sprinter is looking quite sexy to me with all that storage space and fuel efficiency. Plus, it would just be BAD ASS to show up to the construction site driving a BENZ!... If a tile setter can drive a jag, i can drive a BENZ right?
I am debating purchasing a new Sprinter but i do have some serious concerns based upon less then stellar impressions made by fellow users on this forum. I do take into consideration one is more likely to write about a 'bad' experience then a 'trouble free' experience.
Currently I get about 14 MPG out of my blue tank (350V8), I am pretty sure I can improve my mileage with some basic 'hypermiling' techniques.
I am on the fence right now. I love the idea of getting 20-30 MPG (I carry about 1000lb). But i am dependent upon my vehicle being reliable, as it is my means of making a living.
A few basic questions I have:
1) Has this vehicle been cost effective for you?
2) What do you average for fuel economy?
3) How is the road noise inside the cabin?
4) If you had a choice of the old dinosaur or a Sprinter which would you choose as a experienced Sprinter Owner?
5) How does she handle dealing with the rigors of working in construction.
6) How is the paint holding up? Keep in mind I work in a cold climate. (not that my van needs to win a beauty contest, it is more of a working tool to me)
My gut tells me that it might be a prudent idea to wait a few years until the Sprinter 'Bugs' have been worked out. But spending $750-$1000 a month on gas is a real kick to the crotch.
Thanks for your input.
