For all you budding Sprinter DIY mechanics.
I was sent this the other day.
Concerns 2500 2002 Sprinter:-
Towed in no crank, found PCM burnt, checked every circuit
involved, found nothing unusual, new PCM, ran well, kept it
for weeks to check it.Client took it, said it won't go, I
drove it many times but only up and down the street, 25MPH
is it.No codes, pedal shows 50% activity, no code, needed to
move it, no start, smoke from PCM. This time it is not so
badly burned as the first time. All components burned appear
to be starter control circuit related. Client said he was
going up a steep hill, 10 people on board, kept slowing down,
pulled over, he said smoke came from under dash, but, when,
before he pulled over or when he tried to restart, with what
I see from the pedal I think that was the loss of power, it
smoked when I was cranking, so, thinking 2 issues. Any help
or advice would be appreciated.

And you think you have issues with YOURS!

Don't crank it continously for over 45 minuts at a time. Let PCM to cool down. Place it into a plastic bag to keep the smoke inside. :smilewink:

Yes very practical as we know all wires and components have smoke built into them!
Don't let the smoke out!

And my armchair guess is:-

Failed or Failing Engine to Chassis ground.

Return path for starter current is through PCM
