Backup alarm

The backup alarm (the thing that makes a beeping sound when in reverse) is on the fritz. Retail from Mercedes is 243$. Can I use a generic one? They run around 40-50$. I am worried that with the picky electronics on a sprinter that it might not work.

Any insight is appreciated.

Nothing special I'm aware of. You'll likely need to chop the wires near the existing alarm unit and add some connections. I doubt the OEM style connector is readily available.

My OEM backup alarm comes and goes lately. I really like the 2 stage hi/lo db control so I lean to replacing with OEM when needed. They are expensive though.

Here's one on eBay for $145.00 lists 2007 - 2009??
