SOS Need help with door handles...

... or wife will be very put off! Actually.... she already is.

I went to my local dealer and tried to get the "kit" to put handles on my doors. My wife is 5'2 and turning 50 this year. I can say that since she does not access this forum! You can imagine the show I get when she "swims" on to the passenger seat. For now, I escort her through the side slider.

Problem is that the dealer could only give me the ones for the rear door with any certainty. I need handles for the slider and both front doors as well. I am assuming that I need to remove the A and B pillars, set some studs, drill some holes in the pillar covers and mount some vinyl covered handles? Instructions?

If I yank the pillars, I plan to put some fiberglass wool in the overhead to insulate it better. Maybe run some electrical conduit for electrical goodies while in there as well.

Any assistance would be appreciated. Especially in the area of installation.:idunno:

Where are you geographically located?

I thought all NCV3's cargo/passenger/chassis have door handles?

I have a stool with a rope attached for getting in and out when pregnant, notice not running boards.

I can pull the stool up with the rope once I'm in and can lower it back down to get out. It's hillarious 9 mo pregnant, let me tell ya.

Does not help with your door handle problem, but might help your wife.

The parts folks at Timberline Dodge were pretty friendly and helpful, as far as you can go with the parts catalog being what it is.
McCoy's new Sprinter store is a little strange in that there's no easy to find parts counter. They are also a little more lost with the Sprinter parts catalog, in my experience, which is a shame 'cause that's where i got mine. Be sure to have your VIN ready to order any parts.

Good to know. Portland Freightliner is where I bought my Sprinter as well.

Every parts counter employee I've spoken to has responded with either laughter or profanity when I call the 2007/2008 Sprinter parts catalog a "Challenging Document." I think one person said, "yeah, it's spoiling for a fight."

The xml browser application nightmare they call a service manual CD is nearly as much of a barrier as it is informative. I'm convinced they used Active-X just to keep dealerships from defecting to Mac/OS and I'm convinced they sabotaged the content from running on Vista to prevent dealerships from whining about computer upgrade costs.

I currently have the 2007 Service Manual disc in an envelope, probably going back.
Won't work on a Mac, or any Windows machine in this house. WAY too much work :bash::bash:

I'll stick with the old fashioned method of figurin' it out myself.:idunno:

One good lesson from owning a Sprinter and attempting to do it yourself;

Patience is a Virtue,
Virtue is Grace,
And Grace is Pregnant.

Update:

3rd call with Freightliner, PDX. Trying to explain that I need the handles and mounting hardware for front doors and slider.

Do you want the outside handles? NO
Which handles again?...

How about cedarsanctum's guidance regarding Timberline Dodge?

Were the part numbers in the PDFs of no help?

Re: SOS Need help with door handles...

The parts info was GREAT! The drawings are hard to read and the part numbers are hard to place with the figures.

I just wanted the dealer to verify the part numbers and give me pricing.

It's likely they are having the same challenges with reading part numbers and installation placement that you are having. The PDFs came from the parts reference they use.

It's unfortunate, but making your wife taller would be less time consuming and more straight foward.

Good luck, Datajockeys.

My lady just turned 50 and is a good sport, but we are having the same problems.
I'm more worried about getting out in the dark with NoHandles. Kissing the asphalt at night could be
a true experience.
When you get the correct numbers please post them as well as anyting else that may be
"uplifting."

I usually nudge my wife in by her a$$ to help her get in the van. When we arrive at our destination, she awaits me standing on the footwell and I bear hug her out. I imagine this will wear out my back after a while, but for now it works!

Chris, is there any other mounting/clips hardware needed for a complete installation on a non-optioned van?

Tks, Charles

ps. please repost your e-mail, or/and your phone # as I'll be ordering one for each side.

Charles, you missed it by a month...it's jeans weather now in Phoenix

Chris, I'd be interested in the rear and side door entry grab handles with hardware while you're looking :smilewink:
