For the same price (~15k) which one would you recommend?

2008 170 3500 Mega Roof w/300k miles
vs
2007 170 3500 w 200k miles

Both are FedEx trucks and don't have much rust. The 2008 had very recent substantial maintenance done costing 13k+ but needs nothing currently according to current owner. Both are daily drivers.

I plan to buy it and convert it as a camper with bunk queen beds- having the mega height will be really handy for that.

If I were to sell the conversion I would have a very hard time to sell something with 300k even if were a rare model like the Mega though even 200k might be too much for many folks.

I have 2 other Lexuses in the garage which have been trouble free at 210k and 120k miles. Other than routine maintenance I never had to do anything else. I don't want to do the kind of maintenance associated with MB sedans but not interested in T1N or any other vans. I see several reports of things going bad at 250k-ish miles....would it mean a higher mile van would have everything taken care of for the next 200k miles? As a RV I don't anticipate more than 5k miles/year.

Appreciate any help/comments

The Mega roof cannot support any weight (internally or externally). If you plan on attaching 'stuff', you will need to add support structures.

Not planning on attaching anything more than a Fantastic or Maxair. I would be installing all windows but want to keep the external look as clean/stock as possible. AC would probably be through the floor.

The 2007 would be the obvious choice, assuming it has no known major issues.

Would you post a quote and source for that statement? If I'm not mistaken, I read it can support 300 lbs. tho' I cannot tell you where I read it. :idunno:

I've got a 2008 Mega roof for sale here.

Since they both have highway mileage the odometer difference is pointless. I met an escort driver last year on his 3rd or 4th Sprinter and when he sold his previous one he said it was running strong with 600k on it. OTOH, I wouldn't buy a 3500 since a prospective buyer for mine told me he has quite a few running expeditors from PDX and all the 3500s have issues with premature tire wear. Something about the design he said and that's why he wanted mine for his business, until he saw the conversion work it had in it.

The owners manual only cites the capacity of the standard roof (660 lbs) and raised roof (330 lbs). It doesn't mention the mega roof.

I would say it can hold weight but how much is the question. Will try to find out what that limit is since I have a Dometic on mine now and intend to add a solar array. A salesman in Georgetown may be the guy to ask. Structurally it appears similar to the Super High roof and some FG is stronger than steel depending on the situation.

Well mine has cross members and AFAIK they're all of the same design. I've got a Dometic Penquin II which isn't light and everything rides fine.
