What is the average cost of a head gasket replacement for a 2003 including parts and labor?
I'm in North Carolina ...if that matters.

Here's a costing overview.
Labor rate is 8 to 12 hours so depending upon shop rates in your area budget around $1000 to $1500.

Parts.
Head set $167.
Misc gaskets incl exhaust manifold & head bolts & thermostat $347.15
Add $140 for glow plugs if necessary.
Add $500 for head overhaul valves and seal extra per requirements.

add $1500 for new injectors should they be elected to install.
add $500 approximately if any injectors have to be eroded out and any studs whiuch cannot be easy outed using an EDM machine.

Add about $125/$150 for new filters and oil using Mobil Delvac 1300 & coolant.
Hope that helps

Is this a common failure? A year ago Mercedes told me I needed a new head gasket due to minuscule seepage at the passenger rear of engine. I had a indy mech. do a pressure test and he said it was fine and not to worry. Further research here shows that these head gasket seepage spots are benign. Anyways Mercedes quoted $6000 to pull the engine, fix the black death, replace head gasket, injectors glow plugs and a torque converter that they said was causing the RSN. That was a year ago and since then I only fixed the BLack D for $800 and the tranny fluid ....all seems to be fine.......But head gaskets are at the back of my mind.

Fine coolant leaks can be stopped with BK Stop Leak.
Being principally constituted from a ground up Brazilian pepper its organic and can be flushed out with plain water. Leak returns!

So good in fact for the potentially expensive leak eradication evenm I use it! And in any case its an official fix for leaking wet liners on LR Flandie V6 engines.

Dennis, I just googled "BK Stop Leak" and didn't get any hits. Does it have another name?
