I need to adapt the 7 way hitch wiring plug to a 4 way, but I don't know the terminal configuration. I need thisxso I can order the correct adaptor. Does anyone have any experience with this and can advise me on the correct adaptor type?

SSTraveler,
Do you have the OEM installed factory towing package?
If so, it follows the generally accepted USA standard 7 way round wiring schematics.
You should be able to buy a 4 pin conversion plug at your local auto parts store and
simply plug it into the 7 way, then plug your 4 pin trailer connector into the adapter.
In the same display area they have little LED circuit testers that are wired to the same
conventions and schematics.

SSTraveler,
Yes, they are the same.
If you look at the photo on the Amazon site you will see that the
2 pins (in your 7 way round female receptacle) are blank in the Hopkins
47355.

Those pins are for the electric brake and the trailer battery/interior lights/charging
circuits.
You do not have those features with a 4 pin trailer connector.
You only get running lights, brake lights and turn signals.
It should work perfectly if your trailer is wired according to the standards.
Hope this helps,
Roger
