Just got my new 2014 170 crew, Graphite Grey Met. all active safety systems except parksense.
A big THANK YOU to Chris Boyles @ Sun Motors in PA for all your help. I ordered the van and Sun Motors flew me out to pick it up, (from CA). Drove it the 3000 miles in 3 days back home. As an owner of a 2007 Dodge 2500 Pass 144 Hi with 400k on it I can say with confidence that this new van is smoother, quieter and the mileage is great! I bought a 4cyl 7sp for that reason and the maintenance on the v6"s. So far I'm impressed. BTW I owned a 2005 144" Pass also. These vans have come a long way. I will be posting some hard numbers shortly.

Some MPG numbers crossing the country. Total miles 2970, Gallons 146.04= 20.33 MPG. That is actually quite good considering I faced a head/cross wind most of the way. Average speed 71 mph. Best leg 24.35mpg, worst leg 17.92mpg. Overall I would say that the 4 cyl is performing exactly like the estimated 18% increase MBZ says it will get. I have crossed the country at least 60 times in my 07 3.0 ltr and it would be in the low 17's for that trip.

Last year we went to Yellowstone . Total trip was 2200 miles . On the back way I had a strong headwind . My mpg was 21.9 by computer and 21.8 by my calculation .And I was driving trough that wind in Nevada 80mph The van had 8 people and a LOT of stuff as we slept/lived in it .

That's great 4wheels, you must have an exceptional sprinter, I have had 3 high roof sprinters w/3 different powerplants and none of them would do 80 mph in a strong headwind (25 plus mph) and in those situations it would severely reduce fuel mileage. You should keep that thing and milk every last mpg out of it.

More mpg #'s at 4400 mi I put def in it and it took 3.3gals. Yesterday drove up and down Ca 680mi. and got 22.9 mpg. Currently in Albuquerque heading east all the way north of Boston then to Fl and back to Ca, it's starting to get cold!!

The van had 40k at that time . So your 2.1l will get the best mpg after 20-25k . Now , I am at almost 80k , and the EGR cooler is plugged , I lost 2mpg.
As for power , yes I can easily go to 82mph ( limiter) even in a wind

Hi thanks for the info thinking about buying a 2015 I4 170" crew van. Could you tell us how much cargo weight is in it when you're driving. do you use it for work?

Hey 4strokemike,

My load is usually around 1500lbs. I now have over 140,000 miles and its still running great! Some of my other posts are more detailed about mileage and such, you should check them out.
I'm leaving tomorrow for another run across the country.

Cheers,
Dan

Did you drive any different for the first 1000 miles to break in the engine?

No, because I bought it in PA and drove it home to CA (3000 mi) occasionally altered my speed to change it up a little. Also I have never needed to add a quart of oil between changes.

72chevy4x4, If you look up my other posts you'll see a lot more detail, In 2 weeks it'll have 150k and i'll do another update then. The van will be 1 year old on this Wednesday. the only problem I've had with the van has been the AC compressor twice.

Dnshaf

The AC compressor went bad twice? Did you buy the extended warranty? Was the second one covered by replacement parts warranty?

Dnshaf - thanks for the GOOD WORDS on the 2014, 4, - I have read some discouraging STUFF on this forum since I ordered my 2015, 144, 4, low, in August and received it in November. Actually considering selling it but not sure if I'd buy any of the competition vans out there since they seem to have more issues. Don't really want to go back to a Tundra for my needs but the dealers were mostly VERY good and the Yodas are cheap to keep.

geneowens,
Can you give us a little more detail on the discouraging STUFF?
Seems like just about everyone I see posting, who actually has the 4CE I4 OM-651 2.143 liter engine and 7 speed transmission absolutely loves them.
Much better than the OM-642 3.0 liter V6 and old design 5 speed trans.
There's been some bad press on the 4 cylinder 7 speed, but not from anyone who actually bought one and drives it
regularly.
I'm @ 15 months with 47,000 + trouble free miles, some of them (~5,000) towing 5,140 lbs. at a Combined Vehicle weight of 12, 140 lbs.
