View Full Version : Lost 4th Gear

Around 100K on a 2006 sprinter chassis motorhome with Dr.A transmission service every 40K. No symptoms prior to sudden loss of 4th gear while driving. Not slipping - it acted like neutral. Could not shift manually up or down - rolled to the roadside. Put it in park and tried again with the same result. Manually kept it in third gear and it drove and stayed in 3rd.

Got the transmission scanned (got a lot of double talk and nonsense of what the code/cause was) and they reset the transmission parameters and it drives fine now.

Finally - my question - has anyone had a similar experience? Did occur again?

I am 1000 miles from home and a bit reluctant to start on a long journey without actually knowing the cause.

Do you have a leaky Transmission Connector Sleeve? This could cause transmission fluid to be wicking up into the Transmission Control Module (TCM) and cause it to do strange things. These Sleeves always leak over time (they are about $15 and not hard to change).
