View Full Version : Transmission intermittent shifting and stuck at times

I have a 2003 North American Tin with the automatic transmission. At random times I've noticed the van has sluggish take off which feels to me like it stuck in second. If I get up to speed and shift to neutral and back to drive it will jump to 5th. I also notice when this happens the manual shift will not work, up or down. It just shows "D" no matter what.

If I stop and turn the engine off and restart, it seems to reboot it and everything works fine again.

Do I have a bad computer, speed sensor or just a tranny change?

Look for a leak off the sensor on the trans pan. Any history of fluid changes?

you appear to be in Limp Home Mode, use the search button on the blue line at the top of the page for those words and you will find a list of remedies.

Usually, no transmission change nor computer change is needed !

Thanks for the help guys. To answer the tranny oil change question. I don't know. I bought it used with 180k miles. I'm changing the Trans fluid this weekend. That way I will know.

Please read the link on the first line of this link "Additional to do" when changing transmission oil.
