How do I change the serpentine belt and alternator on my 2004 3500 sprinter with the 5 cylinder diesel engine

The resonator is in the way on the 2004-2006 models (you'll be find information here):

Its not hard to do, but pay attention to the orientation of the power cable coming off the alternator and make sure its facing the same way (ie, down) as the one you took off. That wire is bolted on tight - you will not be able to get the nut off of it unless the alternator is still mounted on the engine.

I took a few pictures of my serpentine belt routing so I could put it back the same way.

I use a long 17mm 12 point wrench to operate the tensioner (from under the van), the belt is not hard to change.
