Hi all, not been here for ages which I guess is a good thing as the van is still going well. It's due a service, I keep reading there are countless OIL threads but can't find anything specific to the UK.
I am planing Oil Change, Gearbox Oil Change and Diff Oil change. I reckon I can figure out how to do them, and the quantities, but I'm still lost as to which recommended lubs to use. Most stuff mentioned is American or Canadian brands which we don't have.

Any recommendations please UK friends?

Which van/engine, different oils are recommended before or after 2000 when the engine line up changed.

Try looking for your engine here:
http://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/downloadf.php?filename=en/Spec_223_2.pdf

and then find the right spec sheet from here:
http://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevolistenmain.php?entercustomer=true&language_id=1
for a list of compatible oils. Most of the oils on the lists are European, Castrol always appears if you don't recognize anything else.

The OM602 (pre 2000 engine) is not on the latest list and I can never remember where to find it, but I know from Haynes it uses spec 229.1, and I have been using Mobil Super 2000 X1 10W40 from the relevant list - it comes in 5l bottles, Castrol are only 4l so it works out significantly cheaper in the short term!

Doh why didn't I write the year down.

Yes it's a 2000 208CDI so will read the links thanks. Any other recommendations always greatly received

That will be OM611 engine then, listed under Diesel engines without a particulate filter, there are lots of specifications indicated as compatible BUT note 3 applies which recommends only using 0W-30, 0W-40, 5W-30 or 5W40 when using fuel with high biofuel content (most UK diesel is B10 now). I haven't looked through all of the relevant spec sheets but I notice that 229.3 has lots of Castrol and Mobil oils in those viscosities, also several Shell, Total and a couple of Fuchs and Esso oils too. Should be plenty of choice!

Well I've decided on Fuchs 5w-40 Supersyn for the engine so thanks for the help. Any suggestions what would go in the gearbox and diff? I reckon it's time to do them

Oh. I've just found somewhere else 120k miles for gearbox oil change and 100k miles for diff. Am I a bit premature?

How Do
For your gearbox you want 75w/90 semi synthetic & 80w/90 for the back axle , so i would buy 5lt of 75w/90 & use in both

Also unless your van has a DPF fitted you can use 10w/30 or 5w/30 semi synth oils for the engine . several lads in hte UK northwest run these spec oils no probs . If you do have a DPF then you will need a low ash fully synth oil . I get mine from Europarts & have had no probs

Regards  thats what i'm going for CHEERS
