Hello, :D

Can anyone tell me why there are different horsepower/torque ratings for the OM646 I4 engine found at the Mercedes-Benz (German) website?

I'm doing the wiki (http://sprinter-source.com/wiki/index.php5?title=Sprinter#Powertrain_2)...

There are many variations designated to year model and emission sets for speciifc years for Euro Standards only.
Many of these engines were for sedans! Not Vans.
Fuel bar sets again based on emissions, performance, and fuel economy, and which exhaust systems! dual or single, Turbos...one! or... two in line. Fuels LSD, ULSD HP High performance Diesel, European Only Bluetec fuel bar set 1200 1600 2000Pi
Need more specific info please.
Seek have a read of this PDF it's for the US Based on MB engines I have not ran this up before It's too dam contentious.
If you take the time to study it, you will find many answers to your thoughts as to the Euro Standards having different engines.

CA has been a leader in Emission standards up untill late 1997 It's now so far behind world standards, and you can thank George for that one. The current 642 is being tested for Euro 6 For the US Bluetec using sequential dual clutch systems the fuel performance is based on the trans, along with the primary Fuel bar set. This engine may now be dropped as to Fuel issues not compatable to European based HP fuels It's possiable the Chrysler sun concept engine will now be the replacement as to the progressive use of bio stock fuels in the US :idunno:To early to call.
Have a look at the latest Sprinters in the US and look at the Figures, the compliance plate is a US plate of compliance, You have a passenger 1995 revised V6 for my year 2002 with a 1200 Pi fuel set.

Seek it's either a fake or it's accurate! If it's the latter no wonder your getting so many issues already with engine managements systems and poor fuel returns.


Euro example Tins year 2002
60kW 82 hp=208 Cdi for the ESWB.SWB LWB High Top
95kW 129 hp= 313 Cdi same as above
115kW 156hp =316CDI 5 Cylinder
Variants for LP and gas not included or the later 310-311 CDi
Variants for Hydro cell units not included.
Euro example NCV3 My year 2006
65 kW 88hp =309 Cdi
80 Kw 109hp= 311 Cdi
110kw 150hp = 315 Cdi
135kW 184hp =318 Cdi V6
The US carb compliance plate indicates this is a 4-inline or you have a first generation V6 my year 1995 revised in 1995-7-8 2003 2006
Even I'm not sure which engine you have? No one has ran a dyno test yet:idunno:

All engines are based on Diesel for both Tins My Year 1997 and 2002 Euro 3 using LSD 15/ppm fuels
and for NCV3 Euro 4 10pp/m ULSD My Year 2003 and 2006 Power chips were based on Weight variations between Sedans Vito's and Sprinters three different engines with the same engine number with different RPM's and Fuel bar sets dependent on which trans and Tire being used with final axle ratios

Thanks Richard. This is what I was afraid of. Learning a lot setting up the wiki, but with all these variations it makes it hard to format it into simple page. :rolleyes:

I just skimmed through the PDF that you included and whew! Felt like I was sitting through a presentation. :snore: Guess I have to add a separate notation just for the 2.2l. It was much easier for the OM642 and M272. Horsepower and torque ratings were the same for the US and Germany.


EDIT: Oops almost forgot to answer your question. I'm looking for OM646 information on 2006-2008 NCV3's. But you've pretty much answered my question. There's just not one answer for the 2.2l horsepower and torque figures.

Hi Seek 1995 2000 2002-3 are the key years Look at the 2000 year face-lift model 314 ! UK and Germany, we did not get them for a very good reason:shhh: Drop into Argentina and different again Apart from Diesel variants Gas= petrol = LP=Ethanol

Seriously,some one on the US side needs to check out as what V6 you do have :thinking: there is no match to any Sprinter V6 engine that has the same specs as the Dodge Sprinter V6
So far I have found a 5cylinder 1998 thats matches OM 613 sedans only Chrysler has this engine
V6 for 1998 matches out of a Mercedes sedan with matching five speed auto.

It is possiable that if you have the first generation V6 then The head and engine is not the same as the 2Nd Generation V6.

Fuel
The fuel quanity control of the common-rail system represents a major improvement compared to the previous fuel injection technolagy.
A module of the fuel injection system computes the total injected quanity of diesel fuel for each cylinder.
As such the amount of fuel used can be significantly reduced. in addition, a multitude of individual funtions are intergrated to provide better fuel utilisatation. For example: The Start Quanity Control system regulates the amount of fuel injected when the engine starts, irrespective of the position of the acelorator pedal, by responding to the coolant temperture sensor.
The Higher the coolant temperture, the smaller start quanity required.
How many valves per cylinder do you have in total on the V6
There are questions as to the low fuel returns.
