View Full Version : roll-in wheelchair conversion/moving electrical under drivers seat?

05-14-2012, 04:40 AM
hello, I was wondering if anybody knew about or had any experience moving the electronics underneath the driver seat, my van is a 2005. I am throwing around the idea of eliminating the drivers seat and the white box underneath it and doing a roll-in conversion so I can drive from my wheelchair.

I have not actually had a look at what is in that white box, I am hoping I can relocate the electronics in the box running longer wires to wherever it ends up. Does this sound possible? Unreasonable? Like a whole lot of work?

Thanks in advance,

I'll keep an eye on this thread, a quad friend really wants to get a Sprinter.

One possibility is that the right hand drive Sprinters have the electronics under the right seat (I don't know), and you may be able to get OEM parts that will allow you to move the stuff over.

It's not uncommon been done in the States on a Sprinter"can't remember as to where it was on the forum quite a few years back". So investigating further will be at your end as to a specialist disability mobile convertor:

Again, it's very helpful to tell us *where you are located* (such as filling in your profile so it shows in the left column).
That way folks with local knowledge may be able to point you at good folks.

Here in the Seattle area, there's a mobility conversion company that was located two blocks from a major Sprinter dealer.
Having toured their lot, i'd trust them with a job like this. (since then, the dealer moved, not the converter).
As Richard suggests: call around to conversion companies... some may have extensive Sprinter experience.

good luck
