Along with my EGR related issues I came across a mod that tricks the ECU into thinking the EGR is working when it is not.
It is from a MB forum and talks about vacuum operated EGR valves, but I suspect that it might still work on electrically operated EGR valves as well.

I think I may try it out just to see if it works.
Even though I finally have a working EGR valve again, I am sick of the problems that it causes.

Will report back.

We used to do something like that on the TDIs with a vacuum swith, diode and a resistor. The code name for it was "Epsilonian Device" :shhh: :smirk:

Another thing I did with my second TDI was to delete the EGR, throw it in the trash, and twisted the MAF until the values matched using VAGCOM software. NO CEL!

Actually,
Looks like the above mod will not work on the electronically actuated EGR but it looks like this one will:

Going to try it out as soon as I can.

yes, let us know how it works. Chevy duramax owners have had something similar for a few years now and I have not heard any problems from anyone who has tried it. I believe they called it a "finger stick". A lot of times it will be used with a block off plate to completely block the egr. The thought was that under high boost conditions the egr valve could still be forced open by pressure, not sure if it would ever happen, but thats why most guys would use a blocker plate. Do a google search for - duramax finger stick - and you can see what I'm talking about.
