leaking sink faucet

There is a similar thread in the yahoo site but thought I'd ask this group too.
In dealing w/ the leaking faucet, I have now temporarily plugged the lines and re-activated the van's water system.
But this then revealed the next problem which had also happened when i went to
first inspect the van.
Previous owner had attached the hose to the city water connection to pressurize
the water. It blew the pump hose off the fitting inside the tank. I opened the
tank and reattached the hose and everything worked well (besided water spilling
out from behind the sink!). That is, until i just now reattached the hose to this same
city water connection fitting.
Is there a special way to get the pump to lock onto the tank thru-wall fitting? I don't think
there is enough room to use a hose clamp inside the tank. Does this happen to
everyone when the water is hooked up? Also, I am using a pressure regulator he
gave me to limit the pressure coming from the hose.
