CHECK OUT WALMART FOR OIL. Was in Walmart at two locations in Raleigh, NC this weekend and they both had Valvoline 5W - 40 MST SynPower on the shelf for $6.65 a qt. Not as good as NAPA's $4.99 sales price when you can find it but is a good price to tide you over.

So I guess what I saw here

isn't isolated. Good to know.

Definitely good to know. Everyone should call their local Wal-Mart and request their local store carry this product:

Thanks to Piper1 for providing all the data a Wal-Mart manager, or regional manager may need to replicate the product to put on the shelves.

The picture contradicts the product description/part number.

The Valvoline product number VV966 is MB 229.51 compliant.

The product in the picture shown is VV955 which is not MB 229.51 compliant.

Product description in Amazon identified as VV966 and recent associated customer comments confirm, so I ordered as well.

I'm currently in Wisconsin & noticed that NAPA has Valvoline VV966 5w40 on sale for $5.69 a quart until Oct. 31, 2011. There's also a $1 a quart MIR, for which I am likely ineligible.

After ,poking all over Maine, the only place I could find a compliant oil was the dealer, Prime MB in Scarbourough. $8/qt, not a bad deal all things considered for a dealer.

The three I tried didn't stock either the valoline' nor the Mobil 1. I'm sure if I spent more time I could find some, but I had a ferry to catch, and I am past due for a change.

icarus....I always go to the dealer to buy my oil....I always ask for and recieve a 20% discount...I do this both at domestic and MB dealers...just food for thought...I am not in the trade...I just ask and I receive...mama always said they can't say yes if you don't ask

I had a similar problem in Cottonwood AZ, a small town... the auto supply stores didn't stock any... but, Napa had it in their catalog and in stock at the distribution center... they brought it in the next or day after if I remember.

Same here where I am stuck in Ashland, WI, due to an altercation with a deer that didn't run across the highway fast enough. The local NAPA had a few quarts in stock, but he ordered 24qts for me, to arrive first thing tomorrow morning.

Napa is very good at getting stuff quickly. I have way more respect for my local napa than I do for any of the other retail auto parts chains.

I had a run in with a deer in Northern MN this summer,, cost the insurance company $26k, including a crated new engine since the deer took out the oil filter housing, which in turn rn the engine out of oil in a matter of seconds!

Yes, I read that thread. Fortunately (?? Not hitting the deer would have been more fortunate :smilewink: ), I didn't hit the deer 'broadside', so the damage was mostly bodywork. I thought the rad was punctured, but the leakage was from the washer reservoir. Repair cost ~$4500. Should be back on the road tomorrow with a temporary repair. Balance to be completed when I get back home.

I state truck centre in MSP does great work, you might consider giving them a call.

My insurance covered the tow from way north of Duluth, as it was the nearest "appropriate" facility.

I'm pretty sure that my insurance wouldn't cover a tow much more than 100mi. Anyway, the van is at the Ashland Ford Chrysler Body Shop. So far, I have been pretty impressed with the service I have received. Will see what happens tomorrow when I go to pick the van up.

Is there any other oil that's approved for a late model Sprinter besides the Valvoline? I'm also looking for a source for inexpensive fuel and oil filters. How many quarts?

piper1

13 quarts

Mobil ESP Formula M is available as well. Some run the Euro Amsoil product. Lots of good deals if you search around a bit and what works for you as far as where you are or shipping costs etc.

The key is it HAS to say MB 229.51 on the bottle.

Your owner's manual has a list of oil brands and the quantity of oil that's required.

Filters are available from www.europarts-sd.com and www.dieselfiltersonline.com.

Was in Walmart the other day.... less than $65 for an oil change (10 Qts) Mobil 1 0W40:rad:

US/Canadian NCV3 owners, brassarl drives a 2006 Sprinter, last I checked. His T1N will run fine on this oil.

Do not use Mobil 1 0w40 oil in your US/Canadian 3.0L v6 Sprinter engine.

-Jon

PS: I don't think brassarl came into the NCV3 section to gloat. I think it was an honest mistake.
