Dealer TRIED to get me!

My 05 Sprinter decided to stop on me on a shorter road trip. I was almost home & the AC went hot, dash lights went crazy & loss of power...shut it off & would not start. A Dodge dealer was just a few miles away & said they worked on Sprinters so my AAA rollback driver hauls me there. Got the call the next day that my alternator quit working, they didn't have one but had it ordered for the next day and the bill would be about $1100 bucks!!! Ahhh, no...why 1100? "Well, the alternator is $800". Ahhh, no, I'll get back with you. Called the local NAPA, $239 with core. I offered THEM the option of getting it from NAPA or I'll have the van hauled out. Ended up being $479 total. They dicked me around for 3 full days before they finished, but I just wonder how many people just pay them and do not question it??
The more I learn about Sprinters, the less I'll have to rely on someone else in those situations.

Susquehanna Dodge in Wrightsville Pa. The work seemed fine, but they also seemed fine at the idea to take an extra $600!!

I don't know anything about that dealer BUT....
I do know that they are required to buy their parts from Chrysler unless you specifically tell them to use something else. Blame Mopar!! :censored:

Luckily not me but, Another Stealership experience from Yahoo sprinter board:

Hi everybody back in march I had trouble with my 2007 with 170000 miles, I took
it to a dealer and it was there for three days and they said they need it more
time because they couldn't find the problem so I took it to another dodge dealer
and an lees than an hour they told me I need a new motor and it was going to be
$28,000 so I was very disappointed and start looking for a used motor with no
luck. I had a misfire on cylinder #6 and going in to the limp about 10 times a
day and not getting more than 50 miles an hour. one day about a month a go I was
talking to a friend and he recommend me a good diesel mechanic so I call him and
I took my van to the shop and I was expecting a big mechanic shop and this one
was a xpress lube and I said to myself this is going to be a waist of time
because a such small place but then I said well I don't have nothing to loose
anyway so they look it and about 15 minutes they said I need it a fuel injector
and also fuel filter and they where going to clean the fuel rails on both banks
so I order the parts myself and took the parts to them it was about $600.00 I
left the van for one day and they call me next morning saying that the van was
ready I still couldn't believe it. So They charge me $315.00 and my van came
back to life with $900.00 total and I just can't believe that 2 dodge dealers
couldn't fix it and this little shop fix it an about 3 hours at $75.00 dollars
an hour so I been driving the van for about 4000 miles and still a lot of power
and no more misfire or going in to the limp mode they said also replaces a hose
behind the turbo. MY POINT IS NEVER TRUST A DEALER. I will never step in to
those dealers again and I'm going to see the service manager so they can give me
my $104 dollars for telling me that I needed a $28,000 dollars motor.
