Hi, I am buying a 2011 sprinter next week. It comes with a standard 3 year 30k mile warranty. I have been offered a 2 year 80k extended factory warranty for $1295. I would love to get some opinions on whether I should buy it.
Thanks for your input and experience!

If you think you are going to keep it for a long while, I would. It would not take much to get your money back if you need a repair after the original warranty runs out. I bought one when I bought our Sprinter.

I bought it for my 2010. An 84,000 mile factory warranty for that money is cheap insurance........

It's virtually impossible to get in and out of the shop for under $1000 so....

To be contrary, I think buying it depends on your use. If you drive a lot, then the time/distance equation works pretty well, getting additional mileage and time on the warrantee is probably a plus at that price. In other words, if you are likely to get close to 80k in 5 years it might be a bargain.

On the other hand, if you aren't going to drive much in that time frame it may not be the bargain.

Is it MB factory extension warranty or a dealer aftermarket insurance company warranty?extension???

Check the fine print...........huge difference when it comes time to use it and sometimes not obvious who's selling and baking the extension:hmmm::hmmm:

I thought that, in the states, the diesel engine, emissions system and powertrain have a 5 year/100,000 mile warranty, at least that is the way I read the warranty book in our 2008 NCV3. Can anybody provide clarification?

slowstride, Here is a snag from my warranty book that gives a summary of coverage. Notice the Chrysler Vans copyright at the bottom. Sprinters from this time-frame sure have a confused identity.

showkey, Very good point on dealer vs. aftermarket warranty. Several years ago, I bought my very first warranty extension for a VW Eurovan. Less than a year later the insurance company filed for bankruptcy leaving me with zip for my $1100 expenditure. :yell:

FWIW, I'm thinking very seriously about getting the extended warranty on my 2008!

Good luck,
Wayne

Bingo. The OP says "extended factory warranty" but at that price I would want to see it in print that it is really a Mercedes/Freightliner warranty. If aftermarket, beware!
