Hitch Step

Added a simple 4" wide step to the passenger side end of the Mercedes 60mm x 80mm rectangular hitch tube. Made it with 1/4" SS 10" x 4". Sprinter floor is 27" above the ground and step is 17" above the ground. Put 4" x 4" piece of anti-skid material on top of step. Drawing is changed design with only two 5/16x18nc x 3 1/4" SS bolts. Mine has 3 bolts.

Pretty good idea but this step doesn't have something to support it underneath. Can this really handle the weight without bending??

Nothing under plate. I weigh 170 lbs and it is fine. 1/4" x 4" SS with about 4" of moment arm does not bend.

I like that. I have a receiver mounted step that also has an LED brake light on it but that's a great solution for when I'm towing.

Great idea, i am going to steal it and incorporate my trailer plug unter it.

Used it for a couple of months and it has not bent. If I was to build it again, I would use 3 bolts: with two bolts behind cross tube and one in front. I would probably change the width from 4" to 6". No need for a full width step since you go in the right door.
