Guys
For those of you who are DIY'rs on the service of the OM642 fuel system on the 2010 Sprinter, be careful with the plastic overflow hose on top of the fuel filter.
I have already dealt with one engine that caught fire when the pipe let go at the filter head, its held by those familiar claw type clips used on modern systems there days.
Having had one that was suspect we installed a filter and went for a test. half way through the trial the pipe let go spraying fuel under the engine compartment at high pressure creating a fog like fuel mist that could easily have caught fire if the under hood temp was enough to ignite the fuel spray fog.
The alert in the cab is an abrupt loss of power. Almost like a limp mode scenario.
These pipe assemblies are not easy to obtain and it will down the truck if you suffer a failure.
The part number is 642-070-12-38 if you want to get a spare for the DIY parts bin in the garage I would do so
I ordered two more from the UK since the MB USA source was out.
Happy Sprintering in 2011
Cheers Dennis
